Help & Support for The 98%

Between us, we have 23+ years of experience as professional actors since we each graduated from drama school. We’ve performed on world famous stages, won awards at film festivals and played leading roles on stage and screen...we’ve also worked as teachers, gardeners, nannies, bar tenders, theatre ushers, waitresses, princess party leaders, and truly experienced both sides of the #actorslife coin. The help we’ve provided online to listeners and followers for the past five years has been met with brilliant feedback, and so we are pleased to extend our support in the ways listed below. While there are many options out there for actors in terms of coaching and advice…our approach is relatable and actually accessible to actors who are not in full time acting work. We understand that one piece of advice does not work for everyone, and that actors’ circumstances dictate all sorts of variables, because we live it ourselves! Your actor journey is not linear and there is no ‘one size fits all’ magic pill to suddenly make everything work. We aren’t here to sell a dream, but to make your corner of this industry as fulfilling, enjoyable and empowering as possible.

The 98% has a wide range of resources for actors for free on the podcast, social media, and here on the blog, but if you’d like to have access to more personal, accessible and affordable* support - read on!

writing support
with Katie Elin-salt

I would love to help support you in finding your voice and putting pen to paper to explore your writing journey. As a working class writer who didn't write a word until the age of 28 because I just didn't know how (or that I could!), I believe every one of us has a story tell…but not every one of us has had the opportunity to tell it. With a vast experience working in theatre as an actor I have insight and knowledge on all parts of the playwriting process from workshopping and dramaturgy, to casting and performance! Writing has given me the chance to have more creative control, and have a passion that fulfills and sustains me outside of acting - which is important to have when you’re in the 98%! If you need advice or insight into writing or making your own work as an actor, or if you have questions about the reality of #writerslife - I’d love to help!

Experience:

  • Mentored under the Royal Court’s Introductory writers’ group, soho theatre writers lab and BBC Welsh Voices.

  • Shortlisted for BBC Wales Writer in Residence 2020 and BBC Comedy/Drama Room 2021

  • Second play Celebrated Virgins premiered at Theatre Clwyd and received "Top 10 plays of the year" by the telegraph (see licensing and play purchasing details here)

*We are offering the above services because of the amazing feedback we have received about what we do with The 98% which began out of a dedication to help uplift and empower fellow actors who are part of the majority that do not earn their main source of income from acting work, and we want our prices to represent that!
